26 weeks. 6 months. Half a year. How did this little bug grow so quickly?
After 6 months, we have settled into a very nice routine. Granted, that routine has shifted a bit now that this mama is back at work & Soren is going to daycare. He's been a real champ and taken to his new friends very well, so we are all thankful for that. His lower lip quivers a bit and his eyes well up with tears when he realizes I'm leaving, but Sheila (his daycare provider) assures me that as soon as I'm out the door, Soren is all smiles. I have no doubt that she's telling us the truth, because Soren is one happy guy and he loves people. And when I walk in the door to pick him up, his ear-to-ear smile lights up my heart. Thank God for finding a such a nice place to have Soren play while we work!
So a few run-downs of Soren's happenings of late.
EATING! Soren loves the big people food. We've dubbed him The Destroyer because he can really put the food away. So far he has tried quite a lot...and has liked everything so far! Nanna L got us a Baby Bullet so we've had fun making some delicious concoctions. Favorites combos include sweet potato, carrot, apple, & cinnamon...pea, spinach, & pear...banana, blueberry, & beet (soooo messy but yum!)...mushed avocado....squash of any variety...mango, spinach, & pear...and his favorite is when we slice a pluot (which is a plum-apricot we think) or a soft pear and let him go to town on it. Eating time is always followed by bath time. You may or may not stick to our benches when you come over...beware.
SCOOTING! Full-fledged crawling is not happening yet (whew!) but Soren can scoot across the floors when he's after something. He uses his hands to puuuuull himself along. So far he's been up on his hands and knees and rocking but hasn't put all the movement together yet to crawl. Won't be long.
PULLING! This bug is strong. In his crib, he puts his hands on the top rail and pulls himself up to 3/4 standing. Then he gets stuck and can't quite figure out how to get all the way up, or how to get back down. It's comical but makes him pretty mad. It's time to think about moving the crib mattress lower. We have a little baby seat with an arc over top with toys attached and Soren loves to practice his pulling maneuvers in there. He can easily lift his whole body off the seat and then ends up in a heap half-on and half-off the seat.
BA-BA-BA-ING! Soren's always been pretty chatty, and lately he's experimenting with new sounds. He discovered the "B" noises and will let out a hearty "BA!" and then laugh.
PAPI! If you ask Soren, "where's Papi?" he will look into the kitchen and grin. Man's best friend has become boy's best friend. Soren lights up whenever he sees Papi and the pup has taken to sitting right next to Soren's jumperoo so the babe can pull on his ears. I can't believe he is okay with that, but they have finally figured each other out. And I think Papi finally realized that Soren is here to stay. And he's dealing with it.
PANTING! When Soren gets really happy and excited he breaths super heavy and it is so cute. The drool just runs out of his mouth and he smiles and breathes and smiles and breathes. He has started imitating a lot, so I find myself breathing heavy to make him laugh and copy me...I hope I don't start to do that in public too often...
NO NO NO! He doesn't have it figured out that it means anything, but Soren always shakes his head back and forth and he thinks it's so funny. Lord help us when he actually figures out it does mean no. For now, it's real cute.
At his check-up, he weighed in at 14 lbs 10 oz and 28 inches. He sleeps from around 7:30 or 8:00 until 7:00 AM, waking usually once during that time to eat. As always, he's a side or belly sleeper. If he rolls onto his back he usually will wake up.
Soren Oscar, you are one cool kid.
